The 2007 Handbook of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod charges the Board of Directors to be the legal representative of the Synod and the custodian of all property held by the Synod. In the last two triennial sessions the Board of Directors has struggled to define its responsibility and function in these rapidly changing times while making essential decisions regarding our stewardship of resources. It has been a privilege to serve on this board, and if elected to another term my pledge is to continue assisting the board to be prayerful, visionary, innovative, and courageous in the management of the Synod’s resources. Together as The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod we are called to grow together in faith and to see and engage the mission field around us. As Vice-President–Finance—Treasurer/ Chief Financial Officer of the LCMS, my goal is to manage and safeguard the resources provided by God so that we can maximize our efforts to vigorously make known the love of Christ by word and deed within our churches, communities, and world. BOARD OF DIRECTORS, LCMS [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ Experience as pastor of congregations ranging in size from 90 to 4,600; service in many capacities in two districts, including first vice-president; and appointed and elected positions at the Synod level have given me a keen insight into the missional and organizational needs of our church body. Further, I’ve been honed by giving leadership training to pastors and wives of the LCMS and six international partner churches, helping them to think both domestically and globally about the church’s mission. I believe, therefore, that I could assist in prioritizing our Synod’s work, focusing on the most essential mission and ministry tasks. 2 ordained ministers, 4 laypersons to be elected ORDAINED MINISTERS p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p Qualifications: The Board of Directors is responsible for the legal, property, and financial affairs of the Synod, as outlined in Bylaws 3.3.5.2−3.3.5.9. The Board is responsible for the plans and operating budgets as well as the human resources, financial, and other policies of corporate national Synod, and has certain oversight responsibilities regarding the other synodwide corporations and agencies. Board members should be able to see the “big picture,” both nationally and internationally. Experience on district or national boards is desirable, particularly for the ordained and commissioned members. Experience in large organization management, leadership, and oversight is always helpful. In addition, representation from laypersons who are active in the parish and service in the Synod is valuable as well. Must be available for quarterly meetings of two to four days each. Curtis H.
