BERTERMANN, Executive Director (11-C) Report on the Lutheran Hour The Lutheran Hour, Bringing Christ to the Nations, is currently in its 36th broadcasting season. By the grace of God it has been privileged to maintain its posi- tion among the world’s most widely distributed radio programs. Approximately 1,250 stations throughout the world carry the broadcast Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ through The Lutheran Hour, approximately 650 of these being located in the United States and Canada. Since 1956 The Lutheran Hour has been blessed by the dynamic leadership of Dr. Oswald C. J. Hoffmann. whose Christ-centered messages are heard regularly throughout the year, with the exception of a brief sum- mer hiatus. The Family Worship Hour and Day by Day with Jesus, the daily devotional programs of 15 minutes and 5 minutes respectively, offered by the Lutheran Lay- men’s League to stations for sustaining (public service) time, continue to receive widespread circulation. In keeping with the great Pentecost ideal, The Lu- theran Hour broadcasts in a total of 49 languages. The format in international broadcasting may vary from country to country and language to language. In some nations the dramatic format is employed, in others the documentary, in others the storyteller technique, or good music with Christian commentary, or a sermon with hymns and prayers. The Lutheran Hour’s weekly audience is estimated at approximately 30,000,000 listeners in 135 lands. A total of 24 Lutheran Hour branch offices through- out the world supervise The Lutheran Hour's world- wide activity. Certain of these produce radio programs in various national languages. Radio throughout the world is becoming an in- creasingly important medium. Radio receivers, notably small battery-powered transistor receivers. are widely distributed and readily available, being priced within reach of many new consumers. Good programs and pro- gram materials are desperately needed. The Lutheran Laymen’s League, sponsor of the broadcast, praises God for the fact that the support of The Lutheran Hour has continued to grow. During the past biennium a notably higher level of income has once again reached the headquarters office or our branch offices throughout the world. The rising costs for cur- rent operations and, above all, the many “open doors and effectual” which the Lord of the church is con- stantly placing before us, however, call for an ever greater measure of support. The Lutheran Hour looks to the inauguration of its 37th broadcasting season on Sunday, Sept. 28, 1969, with heartfelt gratitude for the rich blessing of Almighty God and with a prayer for His continued benediction.
