A sample of the type of analysis that this uniformity makes possible is illustrated by Exhibit I, 1968 District Home Missions Activity, which is being reproduced in the Statistical Yearbook for the first time. Many similar reports on other activities of District operations can be and have been prepared. At the moment we are in process of preparing a composite detailed operating statement of North American Dis- tricts on a functional basis together with a consolidated balance sheet. They can be valuable to District Boards of Directors, District executives with functional re- sponsibilities and their advisory counterparts at the Synod’s offices, and at District regional meetings. We will continue to carry out the directives of the Synod with all diligence until all Districts have converted to this uniform system. As a result of this work. in 1968 we made the annual audit for two synodical Districts, and this year we have completed three such District audits. Finally, we are providing in Exhibit J, Synodical Colleges and Seminaries — 1968 Summary of Opera- tions. one sample of a composite study prepared an- nually for the Board for Higher Education for almost 15 years, by reason of the fact that they have had a uniform accounting system for this long a time. This has made possible not only a_ historical analysis to determine trends but a systemwide comparative study to aid in the evaluation of performance such as this sample exhibit does. These last four exhibits are illustrations of the in- creasing number of things that are being done to assist management to make more informed decisions toward increasing efficiency and effectiveness in synodical oper- ations in the general Synod and in the Districts.
