FACULTY ConcorDIA TEACHERS COLLEGE River Forest, Ill. (7-09) To Explore New Frontiers in Christian Education Wuereas, God is always beckoning His people to re- spond to His love for all men by seeking new ways by which He ean choose to touch the lives of His redeemed; and Wuenreas, His past blessings on the labors of His peo- ple encourage us to be bold in seeking out such new ways to express our response to His all-encompassing love; therefore be it Resolved, That our synodical educational institutions cooperate with the Board for Higher Education and other concerned boards and commissions in giving at- tention to the need for developing qualified servants of the Word who can deal wisely and lovingly in the pro- fessional area of early childhood education and in the area of guidance and counseling of children, youth, and adults; and be it further Resolved, That these institutions be encouraged to engage in research activities in those areas which will have meaning and benefit to the educational processes and programs of the church; and be it further Resolved, That the Board for Higher Education and our synodical educational institutions be encouraged and supported in their preparation of specialized school per- sonnel (such as school psychologists, speech therapists, school social workers) and in the preparation of person- nel to provide leadership for early childhood education programs in our parishes; and be it further Resolved, That the Board for Higher Education and our synodical educational institutions be aided (1) in the establishment of guidance clinics to provide labora- tory settings for educational programs that are designed to prepare guidance counselors whose orientation is in the Gospel of Jesus Christ as well as to serve the needs of people in proximity to these clinics, and (2) in the establishment of centers for educational research which can serve as resource for the boards and agencies of the Synod as they program new approaches to the chal- lenges of Christian education in the days ahead; and be it finally Resolved, That all responsible boards, commissions, agencies, and institutions of the Synod be encouraged to explore and experiment with new ways and means by which our Lord can use His church as His mission to all men, and to do so with boldness and confidence in His guidance and blessing in the exploration of these new frontiers in Christian education. FAcuLTY CONCORDIA TEACHERS COLLEGE River Forest, Ill. (7-10) To Reject All Government Support for Christian Day Schools Whereas, Scripture has clearly established that there is to be separation of church and state: “Then saith He unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s and unto God the things that are God’s.” (Matt. 22:21) AC Art. XVIII, 12—13, Triglot, p. 85: Therefore the power of the Church and the civil power must not be confounded. The power of the Church has its own commission, to teach the Gospel and to administer the Sacraments. Let it not break into the office of another; let it not transfer the kingdoms of this world; let it not abrogate the laws of civil rulers; let it not abolish lawful obedience; let it not interfere with judgments concerning civil ordinances or contracts... .
