Appreciation is also extended to our District education executives for their wholehearted cooperation in providing synodical leadership for parish education. Appreciation is also extended to the members of various committees who worked on special assignments for the Board of Parish Education and to all individuals who participated in our work through editorial contributions, field-testing, field service, or other leadership activities. Finally, we extend a special word of appreciation to pastors, professional teachers, and lay teachers who shared with us their reactions to programs and curricular materials based on use in teaching-learning situations and thus provided insights that helped us serve the church better in Christian education. CONSTIEN, Secretary of Adult Education (7-02) To Restore Full Harmony Between Prophecy and Fulfillment in the RSV Used in New Catechism WuerEAS, It is impossible to translate so precisely and fluently from the original manuscripts to modern English that it is acceptable to all, yet it is basic to the full Gospel of Jesus Christ that there is full harmony between Old Testament Messianic prophecies and their New Testament fulfillment; and Wuereas, The well-received Revised Standard Ver- sion allows repeated inconsistencies in the backbone of the Messianic prophecies of Christ's ancestors (Mat- thew 1 and Luke 3), when in Galatians 3:16 the apostle Paul, inspired by the Holy Ghost and 1,900 years closer to the actual Hebrew usage than any Hebrew scholar today, insists that the word “seed, or offspring, or de- scendant” is singular in Genesis 22:18; 26:4; 28:14, where the Hebrew word bezarehecha (2d masculine singular) is used throughout, and the Septuagint has spermati, the singular throughout, and in Acts 3:25 the same word is used, prohibiting the use of either the plural or the collective in all these passages, yet the RSV translators have used either the plural or the collective; and Wuereas, These passages in the RSV do not com- pletely destroy prophecy and fulfillment, yet they seri- ously impair the basis of our precious faith: and Wuereas, The RSV is being used exclusively as the Biblical text in the new catechism; and Wuereas, We, the St. Peter’s Ev. Lutheran Church of Swanville, Minn., have resolved to refrain from using the new catechism until full harmony in the Messianic prophecies and fulfillment of the Biblical text is re- stored, without judging the motives of either the trans- lators or those who edited the catechism: therefore be it Resolved, That the Synod in its convention instruct our Committee on Bible Versions and our Board of Parish Education to exert their influence that full har- mony between prophecy and fulfillment in the Revised Standard Version be restored, so that the new catechism can be used by the whole church without silently sub- mitting to so serious an impairment to the basis of our Christian faith. St. PeTer’s Ev. LUTHERAN CONGREGATION Swanville, Minn. ArTHUR E. Beck, Pastor (7-03) To Take a Position on Use of Public Funds for Church Education WHEREAS, A number of problems in parochial and private education have become apparent; and Wuereas, The historic stand of The Lutheran Church — Missouri Synod has affirmed the independence and religious character of church education; and WuerEAsS, Proposed solutions have been urged on the church through the acceptance of financial support from public funds and for salaries and tuition; therefore be it Resolved, That The Lutheran Church — Missouri Synod continue to probe, evaluate, and give highest priority to the solution of any and all problems appar- ent in our educational system; and be it further Resolved, That we continue to insist on the preroga- tive and responsibility of our church to maintain, im- prove, and when necessary correct her educational agencies without outside interference: and be it further Resolved, That we express our opposition to any form of public support that might in any way infringe upon or jeopardize this right and responsibility; and be it finally Resolved, That this memorial be submitted by the Southern District to the synodical convention. at Denver, 1969.
