Efforts were therefore put forth to keep the existing buildings in good repair and to develop the various campus areas, providing shrubbery and necessary improvements such as streets and walks. The need for better facilities for teaching physical education has been felt for some time. The Board of Control has petitioned the Missouri District of The Lutheran Church — Missouri Synod for permission to conduct a fund-raising campaign to add a swimming pool to the present gymnasium and to establish a better student union. The request was granted, and the cam- paign is now under way. As soon as the church will have sufficient funds, it would be well to complete the second story of Krueger Hall, designed originally to be the school's health cen- ter. For health center the college is still using an old frame building several blocks from the main part of the campus. The arrangement is not satisfactory from the standpoint of health and appearance. Auxiliary Organizations Three auxiliary groups are serying the college with financial and other support: the Alumni Association; the St. Paul's College Association: and the Ladies Guild, composed of many members. All of them have served the institution well and have provided scholarships and needed equipment. During the past these organizations have raised more than $100,000 for needed, much-appreciated equipment, scholarships, and funds for recruitment of full-time professional workers for the church. Lately the Alumni Association has been particularly active in the development of a Century Club. College Plant of Service to the Synod and the Community During the past 2 years many activities of the church at large and the Jocal community again took place on our campus: . LSV Schools, which will now terminate . Pastoral conferences . State Aid Association for Lutherans convention . Lutheran Laymen’s League workshops . District Lions convention noe, WMH RF . Music workshops These activities, we are happy to state, indicate that our church's campus in Concordia is serving increas- ingly as a center of activities for our church in this area. Besides, we think this has good public relations value, giving the Lutheran Church a good image in the eyes of the public. Requests to the Synod Checking our plant and considering its needs, we feel the following things are needed if the school is to continue to meet its mission according to present-day standards of education. We therefore respectfully petition the Synod, in con- vention assembled, to give urgent and favorable con- sideration to the following requests made already 2 years ago: 1. The completion of Krueger Hall, which calls for a second story, originally planned to serve our school as health center. The present arrangement is far from satisfactory. Food must be carried almost three blocks to serve those who are ill. We feel the proper feeding of the indisposed is most important for the comfort and recovery of those who are ill. Two years ago we estimated that this project would cost $98,000. It was included in the Ebenezer Thank- offering, which did not turn out as successfully as planned. Because of inflationary trends, we feel, the project today would cost at least $100,000. 2. The college also needs better library facilities. The present college library was built into the adminis- tration building to serve approximately 150 students. It now occupies nearly the entire second floor of the building (Baepler Hall). It does not meet with N.C. A. standards. To meet North Central regulations in con- nection with the accreditation of the high school de- partment, a library had to be worked into the high school administration building (Kaeppel Hall). In short, better library facilities are greatly needed at St. Paul’s College. We estimate that this project would cost $400,000. 3. We have estimated that the major repairs, plant remodeling, roadway improvements, etc., for the next 6 years would cost $105,150 according to present-day cost levels. Request Summary: Capital improvements $500,000.00 Repairs & remodeling (6 years) _. = SSSS—S—=«~’OS, 150.00 Total request $605,150.00 Conclusion In conclusion we gratefully acknowledge the splen- did cooperation and sympathetic help and guidance given us by the Synod's President and Vice-Presidents, the Board of Directors, and the Board for Higher Edu- cation. Kind thanks! Again we bespeak for our school and all the other schools maintained by our church the Synod’s con- tinued prayers and its kind help and participation for the strengthening and expansion of the Kingdom-build- ing work carried on by our church school for the spiri- tual and bodily training of our present and future full- time professional workers in the Lord's vineyard. God helping, nothing is impossible! Board OF CONTROL O, G. Tiemann, Secretary (6-14) Concordia College, Edmonton, Alta.
