FartH LuTHERAN CHURCH Green Bay, Wis. RIcHARD SIEBERS, President Davip GAUERKE, Secretary Merton L. JANNuSCH, Pastor (3-242) Not to Inaugurate Fellowship at This Convention Wuereas, There are so many facets in life and prac- tice with which we are not in agreement with The American Lutheran Church; and Wuereas, There is so much disagreement among our own brethren in regards to pulpit and altar fellowship; and Wuereas, We cannot afford to become a house di- vided; and Wuereas, We fail to see that such fellowship would do anything to advance the interest of Jesus’ kingdom on earth; and Wuereas, We feel that we would lose our peculiar position of being the one church body that will be swerved from God's inerrant Word by neither material nor numerical interests; therefore be it Resolved, In the name of the Most High God and common sense, and out of Christian love and charity to our own brethren, not to inaugurate pulpit and altar fellowship with The American Lutheran Church at this convention; and be it further Resolved, That congregations and pastors lay aside tradition and lifelong prejudices, continue to study the doctrinal position of both Synods without rancor, bit- terness, or personal bias, and Biblically and with prayer thoughtfully consider the advantages or disadvantages of such pulpit and altar fellowship in the light of the advantages or disadvantages to the extension of Jesus’ kingdom on earth. 8 Goop SHEPHERD LUTHERAN CHURCH Rock Falls, Il. ScHLADE, Pastor OTHER INTERSYNODICAL RELATIONS (3-243) To Undertake No More Joint Studies Until Fellowship Is Declared Wuereas, A joint study on first Communion and con- firmation has recently taken place with the Lutheran Church in America, The American Lutheran Church, and The Lutheran Church — Missouri Synod as partici- pants; and Wuereas, This is not the first such joint study nor, apparently, the last which is envisioned; and Wuereas, These joint studies give the definite im- pression that pulpit and altar fellowship already exists between the participating bodies, when in fact this fel- lowship has not been declared; therefore be it Resolved, That the Synod undertake no more joint studies with these bodies until such time as pulpit and altar fellowship is declared; and be it further Resolved, That participation in joint studies be repu- diated as one more argument for declaring such fellow- ship. Rev, C. L. RHOADES Chicago, Ill. (3-244) To Strive for Doctrinal Unity and Fellowship Wuereas, In obedience to the will of God it has been the desire of The Lutheran Church — Missouri Synod, from its beginning, that there be one Lutheran Church in America; and Wuereas, The Lutheran Church — Missouri Synod has always insisted that this oneness be based on a true and God-pleasing unity according to the Holy Scriptures and the Lutheran Confessions; therefore be it Resolved, That The Lutheran Church — Missouri Synod will make every effort to continue in doctrinal and unity talks with other Lutheran groups; and be it further Resolved, That The Lutheran Church — Missouri Synod will strive to achieve a common agreement in the understanding of the Gospel and the administration of the sacraments before a formal unity or altar and pulpit fellowship is declared with any other Lutheran group; and be it finally
