IMMANUEL LUTHERAN CHURCH Youngstown, Ohio ELMER Wm. Griscuow, President Rosert A. ZILKE, Secretary W.H. Wernine. Pastor (3-126) To Desist from Fellowship Declaration at This Time Wuereas, There is widespread evidence that a decla- ration of fellowship with The American Lutheran Church would neither dissipate the confusion existing within our own Synod nor resolve the diversities still extant between The Lutheran Church — Missouri Synod and The American Lutheran Church; therefore be it Resolved, That we implore the President of our Synod in conjunction with the Council of Presidents to desist from recommending to the Denver convention that we declare fellowship with The American Lutheran Church; and be it further Resolved, That we also implore the Denver conven- tion to desist from such a declaration at this time: and be it finally Resolved, That we as a Synod and as individuals continue to deal and dialog in love with our fellow Christians of The American Lutheran Church in the prayerful hope that we might one day walk in fellow- ship without compromise. Beyer, Pastor (3-127) To Delay Fellowship in Order to Reach Certain Objectives Wuereas, The consultations with pastors and mem- bers of The American Lutheran Church has revealed a difference in the understanding of pulpit and altar fellowship; and Wuereas, The continued difference in dealing with lodge members would compel us to practice selective altar fellowship: and Wuereas, There has been a manifest difference in the interpretation of the Scriptures, e. g.. evolution as a suitable explanation of the process of creation: and Wuereas, Fellowship with The American Lutheran Church seems to imply de facto fellowship with the Lutheran Church in America: therefore be it Resolved, That action on pulpit and altar fellowship with The American Lutheran Church be delayed in order to — 1. Reach a mutually agreeable and clearly defined statement on what we mean by pulpit and altar fellow- ship: 2. Declare what The Lutheran Church — Missouri Synod congregations will do about altar fellowship with lodge members in The American Lutheran Church; 3. Establish disciplinary procedures in the practice of pulpit fellowship: and 4. Explain how we can have pulpit and altar fellow- ship with The American Lutheran Church and not with the Lutheran Church in America, while at the same time The American Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Church in America have pulpit and altar fellowship. Trinity LutTHeran CuurcH Arapahoe, Nebr. Ropert Exanp, Secretary (3-128) To Delay Declaration of Fellowship Whereas, The matter of the declaration of pulpit and altar fellowship between The Lutheran Church — Mis- souri Synod and The American Lutheran Church is a very important one: and Wuereas, There seems to be much confusion and uncertainty concerning the propriety of declaring such fellowship at this time: and WHEREAS, We, the members of Faith Lutheran Church, York, Nebr., are convinced in our own minds that real agreement in doctrine and practice has not been achieved to the point where fellowship can be declared: therefore be it Resolved, That we. the Voters’ Assembly of Faith Lutheran Church, York. Nebr., in lawful meeting as- sembled, petition The Lutheran Church — Missouri Synod, in convention assembled in Denver, to delay the declaration of such fellowship until such time as differ- ences in doctrine and practice are resolved by the two synods, FaiTtH LUTHERAN CONGREGATION York, Nebr, C. G. Hortuus, Chairman CrLaRENCE Knorr, Secretary N. A. HaANNEMANN, Pastor (3-129) To Delay Fellowship and Study Jointly Relationship of Gospel to Witnessing Wuereas, By the grace of God. much has been done concerning fellowship with The ALC on the grass-roots level: and WHerEAS, The slowness of the program in some places (e.g. as we have found locally, The ALC has not instructed the members concerning it) suggests that
