(2-14) To Remove from Office Those Who Deny Unity of Isaiah Wuereas, In response to memorials to the 1965 con- vention of the LCMS the Detroit convention resolved: “That the Synod answer these questions by appealing to what the Scriptures themselves say: ... ‘And He stood up to read; and there was given to Him the book of the prophet Isaiah’ (Luke 4:16, 17; cf. Matt. 4:14-16; Rom. 10:16-20). Thus the Scriptures ascribe ... the Book of Isaiah to... Isaiah... . We warn against the use of theories regarding the authorship of Isaiah... which detract from or nullify the divine authority of these books”; and WHEREAS, Some professors in the LCMS continue to deny the unity of Isaiah; therefore be it Resolved, That the 1969 convention of The Lutheran Church — Missouri Synod reaffirm what the 1965 con- vention declared about the unity of Isaiah; and be it further Resolved, That the 1969 convention declare that all professors and pastors within The Lutheran Church — Missouri Synod must teach in accord with the Detroit resolution on Isaiah and that those professors who can- not accept the unity of Isaiah be asked to seek fellow- ship elsewhere and be removed from their teaching positions.
