We therefore believe, teach, and confess that the supernatural as well as the natural facts included in the Scriptures are necessary for salvation. St. Paut’s LUTHERAN CHURCH Bremen, Ind. MARSHALL STINE, President E.pon Roeper, Secretary (2-08) To Reaffirm Position on the Scriptures Wuereas, In the theological world there is great ferment and confusion with regard to the term ‘Word of God”; and Wuereas, All manner and types of theologies are arising and being propounded because the Scriptures are not regarded, held, and believed to be the written Word of God: and Wuereas, Where the foundation of the Word of God is forgotten, lost, or forsaken, the danger lies in any and every church body for all manner of doctrines of God to arise; and Wuereas, God has preserved our beloved Lutheran Church — Missouri Synod through His Word, and we wish to stand firmly upon this Word of God and to be a light to all churches, peoples, nations, indeed, to the whole world; therefore be it Resolved, That we, The Lutheran Church — Missouri Synod, in convention at Denver in the year 1969, again proclaim, for all to hear and know, our acceptance of the Holy Scriptures as the inspired, infallible, inerrant Word of God, revealed to mankind by God Himself; and be it further Resolved, That our Synod proclaim that it stands firm on this foundation and this foundation only, and that every pastor, teacher, and professor will publicly preach, teach, and confess this firm belief to the con- founding of all the church’s enemies and of all error and unbelief and to the glory of our God and Lord. CHRIST Our SAVIOR LUTHERAN CHURCH Winfield, III. Donatp H. Horrmann, Pastor (2-09) To Remove from Office Those Who Deny Mosaic Authorship of Pentateuch Wuereas, The following memorial was presented to the 1965 convention of the LCMS: “Resolved, That we petition the 1965 Detroit convention to reaffirm the his- toric Christian and Lutheran doctrine of the Mosaic authorship of the first five books of the Bible and to request the proper Lutheran Church — Missouri Synod officials to remove from teaching positions within The Lutheran Church — Missouri Synod all professors who refuse to declare that the Mosaic authorship of the first five books of the Bible is Scriptural doctrine”; and WueEreas, The 1965 convention of the LCMS resolved: “That the Synod answer these questions by appealing to what the Scriptures themselves say, as for example: ‘For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed Me; for he wrote of Me. But if ye believe not his writ- ings, how shall ye believe My words?’ (John 5:46, 47: cf. Luke 24:27). ... Thus the Scriptures ascribe the Pentateuch ... to Moses.... We warn against the use of theories regarding the authorship of ... the Pentatuch which detract from or nullify the divine authority of these books”; and WHEREAS, Some professors in the LCMS continue to deny the Mosaic authorship of the Pentateuch; there- fore be it Resolved, That the 1969 convention of The Lutheran Church — Missouri Synod reaffirm what the 1965 con- vention declared about the authorship of the Mosaic books; and be it further Resolved, That the 1969 convention declare that all pastors and professors within The Lutheran Church — Missouri Synod must teach in accord with the Detroit resolution on Mosaic authorship and that those profes- sors who cannot accept this position be asked to seek fellowship elsewhere and be removed from their teach- ing positions.
