Satem LUTHERAN CONGREGATION Homewood, Il. W. W. Wis, Pastor W. G. WeENTZzEL, Chairman RAYMOND LANGBEBN, Secretary [825] To Give Fred C. Rutz the Right to Inspect the Synod’s Books . . . by a Firm of Reputable Accountants at His Expense Wuereas, Numerous discrepancies appear in the pub- lished financial reports of Synod’s operations for the year 1959; and Wuereas, Some of these items are of large proportion, which the officials of Synod have not corrected in sub- sequent issues of the Lutheran Witness, although ap- prised of such mistakes; and Wuereas, The Lutheran Witness Editorial Board has been requested to correct such errors, it has refused to do so unless authorized by the Treasurer of Synod; and Whereas, The Lutheran Church — Missouri Synod Foundation’s expenses are paid for by Synod, and has been costing us over $100,000; and Wuereas, No financial reports are published in the Lutheran Witness of The Lutheran Church — Missouri Synod Foundation Corporation; and Wuereas, Synod’s expenses have skyrocketed over the last several years, which has resulted in a debt of over $6,000,000; and Wuereas, The details of Synod’s operations are not published in the Lutheran Witness; and Wuereas, The Board of Directors have purchased two large tracts of land for the Junior College in Mich- igan at an exorbitant price of over $1,000,000. One of these sites, costing over $600,000, is not suitable for a college and will have to be sold at a loss. The second site is of doubtful value because of its location and the cost of developing it before a college can be erected; and Wuereas, In order to clarify Synod’s entire financial picture, I requested an audit of Synod’s books, at my expense. This has been refused by the Board of Direc- tors, stating “that the nature of this request will require action on the part of Synod’s Convention scheduled for June of 1962.” Therefore be it Resolved, That Fred C. Rutz be given the right to inspect Synod’s books, with or without him present, by a firm of reputable, competent public accountants, at his expense. Frep C.
