Authorize the Establishment of a Senior College in the Denver Area of Colorado Wuereas, The recruitment program of our Synod amnually fails to supply the Board of Assignment with enough candidates for the holy ministry; and Wuereas, Establishing the first senior college at Fort Wayne, Ind., contributed to this shortage because it created a kind of bottleneck —i.e., henceforth all young men from the western half of the United States must first study two years far away from their homes, at Fort Wayne, before they can enroll at Concordia Semi- nary in St. Louis, Mo.; and Wuereas, The distance and cost involved in this dis- courage many young men and keep them from becom- ing pastors; and Wuereas, The best and only permanent way to elimi- nate this “bottleneck” is to establish a second senior college right in the middle of this vast territory, the wetsern half of the United States, in the Denver area of Colorado; and Wuereas, The establishment of a second senior col- lege in this area would serve the entire church well and provide a powerful means of meeting the growing need for pastors by enabling the Rocky Mountain and the Pacific Coast areas to be more effective in their program of recruitment and training for the Kingdom; therefore be it Resolved, That we hereby respectfully petition the Synod to authorize the establishment of a second senior college in the Denver area at the earliest feasible time; and be it further Resolved, That we petition the Synod to authorize the purchase of land by the Board for Higher Educa- tion in the Denver area within the next triennium for the establishment of such a senior college; and be it finally Resolved, That we pledge ourselves to a more in- tensive program of recruitment and to support this synodical school with all possible effort and with our material resources both in the purchase of land and in the construction and maintenance of this senior college.
