Building Facilities for Christian Education
RESOLUTION 16, COMMITTEE 4

Wuereas, There are many Sunday schools which are operating
under serious space handicaps because congregations, when build-
ing, failed to provide adequate facilities for Christian education;
therefore be it

Resolved, That the Synod urge all its churches that are planning
a building program to build for Christian education as well as
worship and therefore to make a preliminary study of the total
parish program and future needs before instructing an architect to
draw up building plans; and be it further

Resolved, That all congregations be urged to take a periodic
inventory of space needs for parish education and to act to meet
those needs by one means or another — conversion of facilities,
renting, or building.

Action: This resolution was adopted.

Trained Leadership and Certified Teachers in Our
Sunday Schools

Wuereas, The majority of our Sunday school teachers, though
dedicated people, have no professional training for the function of
teaching God’s Word; and

Wuereas, The Synodical Leadership Training Committee has
developed a program of twelve courses and has made provision
for certification; and

Wuereas, Sunday school associations, institutes, summer camps,
and conventions offer additional opportunities for teachers to ac-
quire the knowledge and skill they need for correct and effective
teaching in Sunday school; therefore be it

Resolved, That Synod exhort its congregations and District
Boards of Education to make weekly or at least biweekly teachers’
meetings the rule; that pastors be urged to give their Sunday
school workers the benefit of at least one of the leadership-training
courses per year; and that provision be made for additional train-~
ing through associations, conferences, workshops, and conventions,
the goal being a staff of certified teachers and trained leaders for
every Sunday school.
