Request to Support Efforts of Commission
on College and University Work
RESOLUTION 31, COMMITTEE 2

Wuereas, The great commission of our Lord and Savior Jesus
Christ includes penetration of the university world with the sav-
ing and transforming Gospel; and

Wuereas, Synod through its Commission on College and Uni-
versity Work, and through the Districts, is putting forth efforts
to make effective response to the divine obligation of its Lord also
in this area; and

Wuergas, Synod in previous conventions adopted appropriate
resolutions designed to intensify and extend the Christian campus
ministry in all its ramifications; and

Wuereas, The mounting number of colleges served, the in-
creased and increasing campus population, and the improved reli-
gious climate at secular colleges and universities present un-
precedented and critical opportunities for Christian witness and
impact; therefore be it

Resolved, That this convention in recognition of extraordinary
and critical opportunities in the campus ministry, and mindful also
of the Spirit’s visible blessings on this important work, request

Synod’s Board of Directors and the Fiscal Conference to effect
substantial and progressive increases in the operating budget of
the Commission on College and University Work; and be it further

Resolved, That responsible synodical agencies accord or con-
tinue to accord careful consideration to the declared needs of, and
requests for, grants of financially handicapped synodical Districts
during the current critical period, enabling them to meet their
(i.e., Synod’s) campus opportunities.

Action: This resolution was adopted.

theran Students (Synodical Conference), is this year observing its
25th anniversary; therefore be it

Resolved, That we thank God for the blessings He has bestowed
on the church through this association and that we commend
