148 RESOLUTIONS — COMMITTEE 1

Resolved, That the Synod authorize the Board of Control of
Concordia College, Portland, to take steps to re-establish the
freshman high school year for students desiring to enter the service
of the church.

Action: This resolution was adopted.

WuerEas, Our Lutheran Church — Missouri Synod, by the
grace of God, bases its theology on the inspired Scriptures of
the Old and New Testaments as found in the original languages
of Hebrew and Greek; and

Wuereas, Many manuscripts have been and undoubtedly more
will be discovered which will call for thorough study and sound
evaluation; and

WuerEAs, Gratitude for the pure Word obligates us to pre-
serve it for ourselves and the church universal; and

WHEREAS, We have in our theological training program empha-
sized the study of the original languages and thus prepared
students for scholarly research in those languages; and

Wuereas, The Foundation for Reformation Research has
designated St. Louis its headquarters and will use Concordia
Seminary as its depository for microfilm of the original literature
of the Reformation era; therefore be it

Resolved, That the Synod assembled in convention at San
Francisco in June 1959 encourage making Concordia Seminary a
greater center of research also in the Biblical manuscripts; and
be it further

Resolved, That the Synod encourage generous donations for
this purpose.
