Synodical Tuitions and Scholarships RESOLUTION 10, COMMITTEE 1 Memorial 120, Section F, pages 169—170, Reports and Memorials Wuereas, In the last six years the problem of effective and satisfactory collection of synodical tuitions has been greatly com- plicated by the rapid increase in the number of students who attend two or three synodical institutions in the course of their training for the pastoral office or for the teaching profession; be it Resolved: a) That synodical tuition for one year be assessed and col- lected from every student at the time of first enrollment in a synod- ical high school, college, or seminary; b) That successful completion of a year of training and main- tenance of professional training status acts as a credit on the completed year and as prepayment on the year following through the length of the student’s stay in the synodical system of training; c) That a successful student can thus, with a one-time pay- ment, come to the end of his training and be ready for entrance into the church’s service with a credit; d) That at this point, and at the option of the graduate, the payment may be refunded in full or be credited as advance pay- ment of pension premiums after acceptance of a call and installation in office; e) That in the case of any student who discontinues before graduation, the synodical tuition collected and on deposit with the Treasurer of the Synod is not refundable; f) That in the case of nontheological and non-teacher-training students who may continue in a synodical school for several years, the payment of the synodical tuition continues to be an annual charge; g) That this practice is to become effective with each student as he enters a synodical school, effective with September 1960; h) That all interest and other income derived from the funds so deposited is to be used for the same purposes as the fund itself. Action: After several clarifying phrases had been added and several words deleted, the resolution as printed above was adopted.
