The chairman stated that this concluded the committee’s report. Committee 2— Missions A resolution was presented (TB 242, 35) proposing that here- after the Board for Missions in North and South America be ap- pointed by the President rather than elected. The convention decided to defer action until it had received the report of the committee which is studying the proposed changes in nomination and election procedures. Another resolution (TB 173, 27), with reference to the work in England, was read but discussion poned. post- Public Statement on Education The statement prepared by Committee 4 setting forth our Synod’s position with respect to public and parochial education was adopted. Presentation On behalf of the Hawaiian Lutherans, Pastor Winfred Schroe- der presented a plaque to Dr. Behnken as President of Synod. Election It was reported that the following had been elected to the Board of Directors at this point: Pastor E. T. Bernthal and Messrs. Henry Buck, John Boehne, Jay Pfotenhauer, William Fenske, Walter Koch. Committee 4— Parish Education The convention took up a resolution (TB 211, 1) designed to promote parochial schools more vigorously through District Boards of Education and Mission Boards. A lengthy amendment with reference to the advisability of new congregations’ establishing schools failed to carry. By means of another amendment, “b, 1,” which requested District Boards of Education to make the identifi- cation of congregations that could have schools a regular part of their work, was eliminated. The resolution was then adopted as amended. Resolution 2, which dealt with various means of im- proving our schools, was presented. By amendments the word “continuous” was substituted for “periodic” (line 32) and the word “their” inserted after the word “and” in lines 27 and 31. The resolution was then adopted as amended.
