The Executive etary and members of the Board as well as a number of con- nts represented the Department at pastoral conferences and ious meetings conducted by voluntary agencies and depart- of Synod. Outside of our circles, the Department, through the Executive etary, participated in the activities of the White House Con- ince for Children and Youth, the National Social Welfare bly, the National Conference of Social Work, and other encies. In the meetings of these organizations it was possible, the first time, to give expression to the principles and to explain practices of our Church. We are happy to say that our testi- Sony was always received in a kindly spirit and was much reciated. _ Other associations in which the Department, through the ‘xecutive Secretary, holds membership are: the American Prison PAssociation, the Conference on American Citizenship, Community ‘Chests and Councils, the Council of Lutheran Agencies, and others. ‘There are many other agencies, both voluntary and governmental, in which we must still. seek membership, both to improve the quality of our own work by. learning of others and to contribute our ideas and motivations for the common good. ; The Department is also planning institutes and seminars of its f own for various types of workers.
