# LCMS Convention Proceedings_St. Louis Missouri_1953_S88 # Machine transcription, uncorrected — CHI Digital Archive (demonstration) 88 SEMINARIES AND COLLEGES [124] Concerning the Three-Year Teaching Diploma at River Forest The certification authorities of our various States are more and more eliminating terminal teaching certificates below the levelé of the Bachelor’s degree. Our synodical Three-Year Teachingy Diploma is not in line with these developments, and though served well in the past while Synod was gradually raising its stand-3 ards of teacher training to the four-year level, we feel that the are no compelling reasons for retaining such a substandard ar. rangement indefinitely. Since a synodically approved revision will require at lea several years to become effective even after it has been passed, wi recommend permissive legislation by the present convention in matter. Request: We therefore respectfully request that the synodica convention adopt permissive regulations and authorize Concordi Teachers College, River Forest, in consultation with its sister in stitution at Seward and with the approval of the Board for Highe Education — A. To discontinue the terminal Three-Year Teacher-Trai Program and the Three-Year Diploma when it is desirable to do s B.
