Atlantic District Pastoral Conference James Jaekel, Chairman Harold Bode, Secretary To Require Course in Biblical Stewardship to Be Initiated at Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, and Concordia Seminary, St. Louis Wuereas, A general need persists for our laity, to un- derstand better the Biblical principles and fundamentals of Christian stewardship; and Wuereas, This need is widely recognized by clergy, laity and administrators alike; and Wuereas, The theology of stewardship is an inalienable part of Christianity, being fundamental to a “right spirit,” being fundamental to each of the Ten Commandments, being fundamental to the Great Commission, and being fundamental to the Great Commandment given by our Lord and recorded by Matthew, chapter 22, verses 36 through 39; and Wuereas, No course in Christian stewardship is re- quired in the curriculum at either of our seminaries; there- fore be it Resolved, That the Boards of Regents of both seminaries be authorized and directed to effect the teaching of at least one required course on the subject of Biblical Fundamen- tals of Christian Stewardship; and be it further Resolved, That preparation of course materials include a comprehensive correspondence course for parish pastors; and be it further , Resolved, That the preparation of seminary and/or cor- respondence course materials may be shared by the sem- inaries; and be it finally Resolved, That the required course shall be integrated into the curriculum of both seminaries not later than the spring semester of 1990, and that the correspondence course will be made available with or before the start of this term. Southern California District Loren T. Kramer, President L8-71 To Revise Nominations Committee Selection Process WueEreas, It seems beneficial to elect officers and com- mittee members who are representative of all geographical areas of our Synod; and Wuereas, There is great need to have people serving on our synodical boards and committees who have exhib- ited good judgment and committed churchmanship in their own Districts; and Wuereas, Full and equal representation and identifi- cation of qualified candidates is best accomplished by giv- ing each District an opportunity to have a representative on the Nominations Committee; and Wuereas, The previous system of electing a represen- tative from each District for each convention proved to be effective, but also produced a committee cumbersome in size and not very cost effective; therefore be it Resolved, That the appropriate synodical convention floor committee be assigned the task of devising a plan which would restore equal representation to all Districts but would also provide for an alternating system of com- mittee membership so that approximately one-half of the Districts would have a representative serving on the con- vention Nominations Committee for each convention. Board of Directors Southern California District Loren T. Kramer, President L8-72 To Observe Synod’s Sesquicentennial in 1997 Rationale: Since the committee has been working since 1985, based on a 1983 synodical resolution, to prepare for the Walther and the confessional Lutheran Immigration sesquicentennials in 1987 and 1989 respectively, it is pres- ently time to begin preparation for Synod’s sesquicenten- nial in 1997. To wait until 1992 for a synodical convention to memorialize in anticipation of the 150th anniversary would be pronouncedly late. Resolved, That a committee be appointed by the Pres- ident of the Synod, in order to suggest ways in which the Synod, its agencies, and its congregations, can observe the sesquicentennial of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod in 1997; and be it further Resolved, That the Board of Directors be directed to provide adequate funding so that this committee will have resources to carry out its assigned task.
