# LCMS Convention Workbook_St. Louis Missouri_1983_S298 # Machine transcription, uncorrected — CHI Digital Archive (demonstration) 298 Walter H. Moeller I havea high regard for the present status of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod: the future, with the continued blessings of the Almighty. appears bright. As funds are pro- vided I hope to see an ever increasing emphasis on missions and mission outreach. To that end we also need to strengthen the arms of our seminaries and colleges. provide the best educational facilities possible, and engageina vigorous recruitment campaign. James W. Zimmermann I would like to see a Synod that will move constantly in the direction of obedience to the command of Christ to go forward and share the Gospel with all men. The training of men and women to look outside of themselves in faith in Christ as a world hungering for the Gospel and respond with love for physical and spiritual beings, seeking to minister to the whole man, is fundamental to this objective. The common support in prayer and giving to this outreach must be the purpose of a Synod. This stress on mission will also divert us from our wounds toward ministry. Helen Hilst Education has been one of the sources of real strength in our church. We need to con- tinue this tradition in the best possible way. Training future workers in the Kingdom is an integral part of the work needed to do this. I trust that our church through its synodi- cal officers will constantly look for Ways to improve and strengthen our educational program and I would consider it a privilege to be a part of tbat ministry. George F. Zehnder Arthur Brackebusch I would like to see the Synod move forward boldly in a great venture of faith trusting that if we do God's work, He will provide for our needs and make all things possible. In the years to come, The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod needs to continue to be faithful to the Word of God and to reach out with the saving Gospel of Christ to the com- munities of our nation and to the countries of the world. If it is going to do this, it will need new young leaders who are thoroughly grounded in the Word and prepared to lead especially in the areas of evangelism, steward- ship, and adult education. Elmer J. Sedory Harold Kinas The Synod has established a direction for the years ahead. It is up to the present to strengthen the cords and to weigh each project in the light of our doctrinal position and the needs of our society. Richard E. Maas Carol M. Barton When someone mentions our Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod, I would like the image of a caring. growing, Gospel-oriented church to instantly spring into their mind. I fee] this can he accomplished by inspiring our congregational members so they will witness to the joy, excitement, and privilege of being one of Christ's forgiven sinners in their daily lives. This type of spiritual growth would result in generous outpourings of gifts to enable us to spread the Gospel in our own country and throughout the world. John Bolgert Ted Neuendorf In Matthew 28:19 our Lord told the dis- ciples to “Go and teach all nations... ." I view this as a personal mandate to me and to all Christians to bring all people tothe knowledge of God's plan of salvation through Jesus Christ. I would like to see the Missouri Synod put more emphasis on evangelism work at the congregational level, utilizing lay people with the guidance of the local pastor. The primary function of our congregations and the church at large is to teach and preach the Word of God. Rodney L. Schroeder Having served as an officer of the Depart- ment of Education in the South Wisconsin District for the past 6 years, I have had an opportunity to see the importance of the synod- ical colleges in carrying out the mission of the church. Certainly our Lord is opening doors in the relocation of Concordia College—Milwaukee on the Mequon campus. I'm excited about the numerous opportunities given the college asa result of this move and. if elected. would pray that I could serve Concordia in reaching its fullest potential as a synodical institution and as a source of training for the future laborers for the Lord's harvest. Klatt The Synod must continue to work toward its role of mission and ministry. We have the responsibility to carry out the Great Commis- sion. This can be accomplished through the teaching and preaching ministries. We must seek the Holy Spirit's guidance as we use the inspired Word of God and the means of grace as our tools to build for eternity. The Synod must establish its goals and move towards a responsible ministry. Ken Norton As a Synod our major concern has to continue to be that of equipping the saints. Our equippers need to have vision in order to reach that goal. Our colleges and seminaries cannot afford to be satisfied with status quo. They must continue to look for better ways to equip our leaders to serve our Synod in this complex world. God has given us the task of carrying out the Great Commission and we are to meet that task as a Synod with the confidence that He will bless our efforts. Roy J. Culley It has been with great joy that I see the Missouri Synod continuing to uphold its Scrip- tural position since the New Orleans Conven- tion. It is my continuing prayer that our church will continue to strengthen itself and resist worldly encroachments to the holy Word. I look forward to atruly integrated and unified system of higher education that will produce scripturally sound, God-loving. professional church workers to continue to nourish the laity. The Missouri Synod, with scripturally sound professional workers and laity inspired with the love of Jesus. can only go on to do God's Work in His glory. Gilbert McMillan For over 25 years as a member of the LCMS I have involved myself extensively in church responsibilities at the congregational, Circuit, District, and synodical level. These experiences have sensitized me to the needs for quality Christian education at all levels of development. They have given me insight and understanding of doctrine, missions, ministry. and higher education. The return to our ortho- dox Lutheran heritage is cause for thanks- giving. and I thank God our Synod is returning to His Word, which is our only source and
