To build and strengthen this system in the years ahead should be one of the major objectives of our church so that we can continue to turn out pastors and teachers who know the Word of God and desire to remain faithful to it in their life, teaching, and preaching. Herbert E. Muench As a graduate of St. Paul’s High School and St. Paul’s College. 1 am very much inter- ested in its future. In the past I have attempted to recruit students and have asked congrega- tion for its support. St. Paul's has played a vital role in our church body and will continue to do so under the proper guidance and direction. Franklin J. Fischer Lester P. Golz It is my hope and prayer that the Synod will remain true to its Lord and God and faithful to Scripture and will uphold its confes- sional statements. As concerns St. Paul's College, I will make every effort necessary to promote recruitment of students for the preach- ing and teaching ministries as well as other full-time church workers. It is my conviction that our buildings. facilities, and grounds should be kept in good repair and serve as a witness to our stewardship. Our faculty. staff. and the curriculum must be the very best available. There is no place for mediocrity and sloth in the kingdom of our Lord. We must give our Savior our best efforts. Roger Alewel Roger M. Eichler I believe the Great Commission of our Lord demands strong emphasis on Christian education and therefore—over the years—I have been involved in various aspects of our church's Christian education ministries. I further believe that schools such as St. Paul's, Concordia, are vital to our Synod’s carrying out the Great Commission and therefore seek to continue to serve on the Board of Regents. Paul M. Heins Christian education is our future—provid- ed by the Lord. I believe the primary goal of St. Paul's College should be to educate full-time church workers. A secondary goal should be to provide a Christian education for laymen while they seek their various degrees. As a recent graduate of St. Paul's College, I know the campus’s strengths and weaknesses. I am confident that my young perspective and close ties will enable me to contribute to the future of St. Paul's. Britton I have been blessed by my Lord with broad experience as military chaplain (28 years). campus pastor (Kansas and Michigan State Universities), parish pastor in mission, estab- lished, and multi-pastor congregations. With true evangelical Christian love in all involvements, the Synod must maintain boldly its confessional position. always based on God's holy Word and the Lutheran Confes- sions. It must continue to emphasize implement stronger, more thorough, syste- matic study of God’s Word, a Synod truly of and in God's Word. Under God's Holy Spirit enduring blessings, growth, and strength will occur in evangelism, stewardship, missions, and the personal faith and life of Synod’s members. W.H. B. Fehl, Jr. I believe that the Missouri Synod has the most complete Scriptuie-based Christ-centered doctrinal stance of all denominations. As a result we are capable of doing great things in kingdom work. One of our biggest assets is well-taught and well-trained young pastors. Our seminaries need to be the very best with the broadest possible curriculum and highest type professor. To this end we must strive to make this training available at the lowest possible tuition rate. The power isin Word and sacrament, and the pastor is the servant of the Word. Donald E. Kirchner 1. It is necessary that we continue to hold fast to the Scriptural and Confessional position of our Synod. 2. We must continue to equip our pastors and teachers to serve in Christian congregations and always Strive to improve in every possible way. 3. The Synod must strive to support our colleges and seminaries with 100”: financial support rather than the present 30%: or 40%. Robert W. Koch It would be well for us, I believe, to intens- ify our efforts to strengthen our church leader- ship both in terms of academic competence and in the exemplary self-discipline of personal and vocational integrity. To retain and enhance our credibility as a church body requires the kind of mutual Christian account- ability in which we continually reevaluate the Scriptural consistency of our formal profession and our actual practice. Such effort, I believe. is essential for us to remain truly ‘“Confes- sional” rather than merely “professional” Lutherans. Richard L. Bultemeyer I believe that The Lutheran Church— Missouri Synod still teaches and preaches the 297 true and inerrant Word of God as given tous by God through Holy Scriptures and for this I give God glory. praise, and honor. We need to continually be alert that this is always the case. However, I also feel very strongly that we become known as a very loving and caring church where all people can come and find that Christ-like love, care, and acceptance. So often we have been known as the church with the right answers but not necessarily the church with the right heart. This attitude must be established at all levels but especially at the seminary and college level where our pastors and teachers are trained, which means that the key people to effect this attitude are the leaders of our church. 1 Peter 3:15b would be very important, “Always be prepared to make a defense to anyone who calls vou to account for the hope that is in you, yet do it with gentleness and reverence.” Marvin Himmler Raymond N. Joeckel My prayer is that our entire Synod can get behind our synodical seminaries and teachers colleges in a prayerful and financial way so that we can send pastors, teachers, and missionaries all over the world. In this way we can help to carry out the Great Commission. John Wiebe Mv hope and prayer for our Synod is that it will assume and maintain an unequivocal. resolute doctrinal posture that is faithful to our Lord and the Lutheran Confessions—a stable haven of faith, hope, and sound doctrine. It is my firm belief that we should concen- trateon education. We msut make sure that our seminarians are prepared in doctrine and practice and true to their calling. It is imperative that we insist that those same high principles apply to all who preach and teach in the LCMS. We should strive to have an informed laity. Adult education as well as the education of the young must be grounded in the Word. Consistent purity of doctrine and practice could be the key to tap the huge reservoir of God's gifts to His people.
