Roger Bettin Having been a member of LCMS congre- gations in lowa, New York, and my home state of Minnesota, and now in Florida I have seen the need for the work of the LCMS from different areas of the U-S. All the efforts of the Synod and its agencies has two purposes: With the Holy Spirit to (1) help the members of our church to grow and strengthen their faith in our Lord Jesus Christ and (2) spread this Good News to others. Because of my business exper- ience and my love for my Lord I believe that I am well qualified for this elected position. Marvin L. Jenkins The dramatic success of the Forward in Remembrance program has provided the impetus for a vigorous mission outreach. Con- cordia Publishing House is in a unique position to complement the Synod’s mission program by the publication of doctrinally sound mater- ials in various media. I believe that Concordia Publishing House must aggressively serve. not only as the publisher for the Synod but also the publisher of the Synod. That implies a broader constituency than the House has traditionally served. but itis in accord with the Master's command: "Go ye therefore and teach all nations... .” Robert Kratzke I would pray that our Synod will continue to preach the true message of salvation anc. will, with God's help. use all our resources prudently to carry out this great commission. We have been greatly blessed with the tech- nology to spread God’s Word throughout the world. I pray that we use God's gifts wisely. Fred L. KuhImann Virgil Mauer My personal statement for the good of the LCMS is for renewed fellowship with the ALC and to extend it to other Lutheran bodies such as LCA. We need to show Christian love to all. and a good place to start is fellowship with other Lutherans. NOMINATIONS Albert W. Moeller The Synod needs to be obedient to the Lord’s commission to go and make disciples in all parts of the world. To this end we need to always proclaim the Word of God in its truth and to diligently administer the sacraments. We need to be equipping the saints so that all of the Lord’s people can use their gifts and their time to the utmost in serving the Lord in His kingdom. As a Synod we need to continue to have outstanding educational agencies to properly train people who have responded to the Lord's calling to service. Melvin M. Olsen Recovering from its problems of the early 1970s, the Synod is now rededicating itself to the Great Commission with oversubscriptions to the Forward in Remembrance program. My hope is that the Synod will double its member- ship during the 1980s, bolstered with renewed faith and courage. Literature and programs must be developed for this purpose as well as to serve and keep those we have gained. As a member of the CPH Board of Directors, I would strive for sound business management in these times of high inflation while encouraging the use of its facilities in carrying out this mission of our Synod. Fabry I believe that Christian education at the college level is a vital area of the church's life and ministry. I fully subscribe to the purposes of Concordia College. Ann Arbor, as set forth in thecurrent catalog of this synodical institu- tion and, if elected. would strive to serve to the best of my ability with the help of God. David Krause Our Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod must always remain true to God's Word. As more of our people get into that Word through regular Bible study. our church will become much stronger, for that is where all strength has its source. Our colleges will experience tough finan- cial times, and steps must be taken to insure that all students desiring a post secondary Christian education have the opportunity to attend one of our fine Lutheran colleges. Justin C. Schwartz Concordia College, Ann Arbor, Michigan. is in my estimation on the threshhold of an expanded program. In February of 1982 the State Board of Education approved the teacher- training program, thus qualifying the college to graduate teacher candidates certified by the State of Michigan. In the May 1982 meeting of the Board of Regents a resolution was passed to strengthen the preministerial program by creating the position of “Director of Presemi- nary Training.” Previous to this the Board of Regents initiated a “Parish Assistants Pro- gram" to train workers in many areas of congregational endeavors. My dream for Concordia College during the ‘80s is to strengthen the existing programs and to provide its students with the best possible staff and facilities so they will be trained to be effective workers in the Lord's kingdom. William S. Burks I believe God is providing great opportuni- ties for the LCMS to serve the needs of the unchurched people around us in each com- munity. Through aggressive educational programs the clergy. teachers, and laity can be equipped to serve our Lord's commission to make disciples. It is my dream that the LCMS would so enthusiastically pursue church growth and all that this involves (use of spiri- tual gifts, assimilation of new members. developing laity, etc.) that our membership and commitment would begin to grow 10 per- cent per year. Thomas Jaffke Kathryn Renken I should like to see our Synod focus more on our common faith in Jesus Christ as Savior of the world. I would like to see greater cooper- ation with fellow believers in Christ. Rolland Wilkening BOARD OF REGENTS AUSTIN 1 pastor, 1 teacher, 2 laypersons to be elected.
