Jack Baumgarn I] believe that the power for the church and any board within the church is the Gospel of Christ (Rom. 1:16) with the Word of God as its foundation (Eph. 2:20). Studies have shown that vouth and adults NOMINATIONS want and need the Word in all its truth and purity. I would hope that I could help to keep Christ and His Word up front in youth ministry within our Synod and beyond. Gordon Gross I'm anxious to see our Synod more and more conscious ofits very important rolein the kingdom of God. I see a faithfulness to God's Word of love that should enable us to settle our difficulties and move forward mightily to His glory and the benefit of many. Rick Krueger Youth of the world are looking for ways to spend their energy and time, and! am thankful that our church provides so many opportuni- ties for them to do this in a Christian way. I would hope that our church will continue to expand ways for youth to become more actively involved and opportunities to strengthen their faith in our Lord. I pray that we do this as the pure Word of God directs us. William E. Schultz The spiritual condition of our church is not good. We are too often giving lip service to the use and study of God's Word. We must turn to God for our direction, for our growth, and for our salvation. As God's people we need to continuously reassess our priorities and the way we do things. Our pastors need more than head knowledge. Our youth need more than games and activities. Our ladies need more than projects. There is a need for a revitalization of the faith that our forefathers demonstrated. God lays before us many difficulties and challenges, but He also equips us with all that we need. Jon Bergman The Synod needs to serve all age groups: children, youth, adults, and older persons. One way in which the Synod can serve young people is to help them see opportunities for service and witness in their everyday lives. The youth have many talents and need to be involved in the decisionmaking of the church. Ronald Burkhard I would first like to say that I am very thankful for this nomination and hope and pray that it may be the start of a great life in service to the Lord. Being a youth, it would greatly please me to see The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod put a greater concentration on its younger members through the Board for Youth Services. The youth of today need a stronger foundation, a greater involvement, and a renewed eagerness in the church. Proverbs 22:6 says it beautifully: “Train upachildin the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.” May the Holy Spirit continue to guide the work of the Synod and especially of the Board for Youth Services. Jon Coyne I am very excited about the growth of youth ministry in the Synod. I have been actively involved in youth ministry at all levels of the church structure for four years. It is pleasing to see the enthusiasm which has been generated by the Synod in the past few years. ] am also very excited about the growth ofthe Lutheran Youth Fellowship. I am glad to see this youth organization working within the Synod. I pray that the Synod would con- tinue to support and direct youth ministry in the future. Philip J. Ebeling A wonderful force in anyone's maturing vears is involvement in a total vouth ministry program. Youth learn to more fully enjoy the splendid peace and joy of God's grace through 293 faith as the Holy Ghost invigorates them through the Word and sacraments. My God has generously blessed me with faith, talents. joy, leadership abilities. and ideas: I pray that He shall allow me to employ these on the BYS as it strives to assist vouth in becoming dynamos for our Lord: forgiven, forgiving, and for sharing their love. witness, and special gifts and blessings from their Lord with their fellowman. Bruce Keseman The Lutheran Church—Missourl Synod needs to continue its striving for strong. conservative, Bible-based. and doctrinally sound preaching and teaching. The value of such preaching and teaching needs to be impressed on vouth, who will be the future leaders of our church. Also. the emphasis on Witnessing and evangelism that seems to have become stronger within our Svnod in recent vears needs to continue—we have a command tomakedisciples. and we should work to fulfill it. Lisa Krieg I believe that the youth of the church is the future congregation. With this in mind the Missouri Synod should put special emphasis on the youth. Much thought should go into programs for the youth so that they can grow spiritually in God's glory and feel comfortable and willing to speak out on God's love and the promise Jesus has given. Denise Orton Chris Ryan As time marches forward, so should the Missouri Synod. In the past, the vouth of the Synod watched in disappointment as pro- grams (without vouth involvement) were developed. Recently, the youth were allowed to be a part of retreats, board meetings, and even svnodical conventions. This evolution should continue. The vouth should not be thought of as the church of tomorrow, when in truth they are the church of today. The Synod can help through greater emphasis on Lutheran Youth Fellowship and other synodical and District youth programs. The doors to the future stand before us. All that they need is to be opened.
