An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. This could be done within the framework of the present system, Since inception of the Pension System quite a number of workers have not retired at pension age. Some continue to servé in full capacity for five years or more. God granted them good health, Money which otherwise would have had to be paid out was saved. These savings should be used to preserve the health of the workers; be it therefore Resolved, That each year the Pension Board figure out approxi- mately how much money in that way is being saved by Synod; and That each year the Pension Board permit as many of the workers who have had thirty years of service, but have as yet not reached pension age, to retire and to receive the old age benefit, as this. sum would warrant. This plan if adopted might mean quite a saving of manpower and money. Martin KELLER Adequate Pensions for Professors after Retirement (Memorial 826) We, the Faculty of Concordia College at Fort Wayne, Ind., re- spectfully ask the honorable Synod to consider providing an ade- quate pension for professors when their retirement becomes nec- essary. It is obvious that in frequent cases a professor at our sem- inaries and colleges dreads retirement chiefly because of financial reasons. It would also be easier for a local board to ask a professor to resign if it knew that a professor’s wants after retirement are ade- quately taken care of for the rest of his life. For this reason we suggest that a professor be given at least 50% of the current pro- fessor’s salary plus rent for the period of his retirement. Tue Facutry or Concorpra Coiiece Fort Wayne, Ind.
