Both Districts have set aside the period between Easter: and Pentecost, 1950, for the ingathering of offerings, and we hope to submit to the convention in Milwaukee the results of this collection. We have also complied with the directive implied in Synod’, resolution: “To authorize the Board for Higher Education to! approve the plans for any proposed construction.” Our plans, upon{ the suggestion of the Board, are based upon a projection into thej future involving the assumption that by 1960 we shall have a pos.j sible enrollment of 160 students (approximately 40 more than’ today). Careful computation of what we have and what additional§ space we shall require for the accommodation of some 160 students has enabled us to arrive at the cubic area required in new additions.3 Sketches have been drawn up by our architect. The entire expan sion plans have been submitted to the Board, and its members have} declared themselves to be in basic agreement with these. Within the lifetime of one pioneer, our venerable Dr. E. Eber-§ hardt, Western Canada has developed from a “frozen” mission; outpost into two synodical Districts, numbering 28,000 souls andj having within its boundaries an educational institution. The development of its vast resources found in forests, fields, and mines is attracting the interest of people over the entire North America continent. Edmonton is today the fastest growing city in Canadai and within a radius of 50 miles 700 oil wells have been broughi into production during the last three years. The steady growth of population guarantees, under God, a growth in the membership of our Church. In enlarging the place of our tent and stretchi forth the curtains of our habitations, we shall keep in mind words of our Lord: “The harvest truly is plenteous, but laborers are few.” We hope and pray that our Concordia v always be privileged to supply increasingly such laborers in kingdom of our precious Savior Jesus.
