Resolution 12-08 Since the deletion of proposed Bylaw 7.0lb may make it unclear as to the status of the Board of Stewardship, I suggest that the first resolved be reworded as follows: “That the Synod combine all stewardship and financial support activities into a new department to replace the present Board of Stewardship and that it be known and recognized as the Stewardship and Financial Support Department responsible to the Board of Directors for the promotion of giving of time, talents, and treasures, including normal weekly offerings, deferred giving, and special gifts." To conform to the proposed bylaws, I also recommend that the third resolved be changed to read as follows: "That the Board of Directors, after consultation with the Commission on Constitutional Matters and the Council of Presidents, and with prior consultation and approval of the presidents of the Districts involved, shall implement such a structure, within the parameters of the adopted bylaws, such structure to be responsive to the results of the aforementioned study.” ‘I appreciate the work both of your committees are doing toward the creation of the new Department of Stewardship and Financial Support. I consider this subject to be one of the highest priority items at this convention. We must capitalize on the momentum of Forward In Remembrance. We cannot continue to operate as in the past with insufficient funds for District and Synod work. We have to be able to feed what is planted with FIR funds. To be ready to do so, we must act now.
