Vice-Pres. 3. Wayne E. Krueger 1. [have 10 years’ experience with a CPA firm as an accountant-auditor. Prior to this I was a controller for a small corporation that did business in four foreign countries and all over the US. At present time I am (enrolled to practice before the internal revenue service) an enrolled agent. 2. I feel great that we have remained a strong and viable Christ-centered, pure Bible- preaching church. 3. We should preach God’s Word in truth and purity. The world is changing every day, more knowledge, more questions, more needs; and we have that saving knowledge that will answer all questions and fill all needs if we keep God’s word pure and donot compromise it. Norman D. Sell 1. Experience as Treasurer will be invaluable as Synod moves forward in the 80s. Outside financial or management experience alone cannot prepare one for service as Synod’s Treasurer. Prior background in business, government, and university affairs has been most helpful in relating to the prob- lems and opportunities within the synod- ical structure. 2. Greatest joy is the renewed desire of many to move forward in missions; disappoint- ment is the missed opportunities due to lack of adequate finances. 8. Synod needs to restructure for service to congregations and people. Too many re- sources are spent in meetings which don’t result in action and mission endeavors. In order to serve a diverse fellowship of believers we must not assume a right to support but must promote and communi- cate programs worthy of involvement. Conventions must be shortened and less frequent; fellowship opportunities should be increased. Society can still be influenced by the LCMS through the numerous pro- grams it helps to support and sponsor! BOARD OF DIRECTORS 2 pastors, 1 teacher, 3 laypersons to be elected. PASTORS Kenneth W. Behnken 1. Service as a pastor for 26 years, as a coun- selor and District board member for three years, and as a member of the Synod’s Board of Directors for one year has made me aware of the church’s program and its needs for careful organization and promotion. 2. Greatest joy: Our return to a theological stance that takes the Scriptures very seriously and sees the mission of the church as bringing the Gospel of Jesus to people. Greatest concern: A return to an isolationist attitude in matters of fellowship. I believe there are proper expressions of Christian fellowship at many levels which do not compromise doctrine and, in fact, allow a clear witness. 8. Continue our concern for sound training of pastors and teachers who are committed to the Holy Scriptures and the Lutheran Con- fessions without reservation; continue to emphasize the church as all of God’s people, not just professionals, with a mission to bring life in Christ to those around them. Ihno A. Janssen 1. Iam familiar with the Synod. (1) Have been District stewardship secretary. (2) Repre- sented Synod in congregations considering leaving Synod. (3) Have served on various synodical appointments—presently the Commission on Literature. (4) Have attended nearly all synodical conventions. (5) Involved in education, have masters and doctorate in this field—taught college level. Presently have day school—24 teachers and 570 pupils. 2. My greatest joys are that the enrollment at our seminaries is growing and that we can again enjoy greater theological harmony in Synod. 3. I agree with the critic who wrote, ‘While Christ was going about doing good, we Christians are only going about.” For Synod merely to “get along” or even to “go into all the world” may not be enough. Go, we must, but Christ’s commission tells us to “make disciples” of Christ through Word and Sacrament. Doing this we need team- work. We cannot do it alone. Henry Koepchen 1. My two years on the Board of Directors and as secretary of the Subcommittee for Finance have given me an intimate know- ledge of the work of our Synod. I am impressed with the talent and the dedica- tion of those with whom I have been privileged to serve. 2. There is no room for disappointment in a church which is responsive to the Great Commission of our Lord. Our view of mission has been expanding and the members of the Synod are providing in- creasing support. 3. Strengthening the local parishes in their work will make it possible for them to become more involved with their Districts and the Synod in reaching our world with the Gospel. The level of trust for one another and the joy in working with other Luther- ans and Christians will bring us all increas- ing joy and peace in Christ. Daniel J. Ondov 1. I served in Montana during growing years and in North Nebraska during planning for amalgamation with South Nebraska to one District. I have a concise, well-ordered mind and a lot of experience. 2. Joy: Forward in Remembrance. (For which I am a subdistrict director.) It means we're going to move again! 8. More synodical support of our colleges and sems, so as not to lose control. Provide expertise in apartment ministry. Move into more of the world. William E. Ludwig 1. I have served in a similar capacity on the District level for 10 years and now have completed one term as teacher member of the synodical Board of Directors. 2. The greatest joy over the direction the Synod is moving, as I see it, was in main- taining a Lutheran body faithful to God’s Word. While the direction of the majority of church bodies was to the left, the LCMS reversed this trend. 3. Now that the internal struggle to maintain purity in doctrine is past, the LCMS can enthusiastically go forward, reaching out at home and abroad, proclaiming the Good News of Christ to all people. Karl G. Schmidt 1. Both sides of my family have given me a strong heritage of synodical commitment. Have served in parishes representing rural, small town, intercity, and suburban com- munities. I have functioned at various levels of planning, supervision, and execu- tive administrative as a layperson and asa professional church worker. 2. My disappointment of recent years really centered on the disagreements in Synod which came into full shock at the rupture of the seminary. I was very excited about our church’s missionary outreach in the ’50s and ’60s. I pray that our Gospel thrust be multiplied. God does bless effort!
