Quiram Lester Zeitler Alan Hartfield 4-26A To Revise Base for Determining Retirement Benefits WHEREAS, Present retirement benefits are based on the last 15 years of creditable service in the ministry; and WHEREAS, Limiting the base retirement benefit to the last 15 years of service makes it difficult for smaller congregations to encourage older pastors to accept their calls; and WHEREAS, Other retirement plans base their benefits on the period of largest aggregate compensation of the worker's creditable service; therefore be it Resolved, That the LCMS base its retirement benefits on the largest aggregate compensation on which contributions are paid over'a period of 60 months during the entire period of creditable service, or if fewer than 60 months of service, the average monthly compensation over the entire period. Our Savior Lutheran Church Hickory, N.C. Bill Hall, President Beulah Sipe, Secretary Identical or similar: 4-26B to 4-26D First, Odenton, Md. Grace, Woodbridge, Va. Pilgrim, Bethesda, Md. Daniel H. Quiram Alan Hartfield Lester Zeitler 4-27 To Allow Salary Adjustments, Taking into Account Economic Factors WHEREAS, The United States has for some years been caught up in a well-known inflationary period that has hada devastating effect on the purchasing power of the dollar; and WHEREAS, The amount of the synodical subsidy provided this seminary, large as it may be in terms of dollars, simply does not permit maintenance of a salary schedule that even begins to approach providing salary adjustments commensur- ate with the rate of inflation; and WHEREAS, The base salaries of professors and staff at this seminary are not, and have not been in the past, at a scale comparable to salaries in the secular field for those with similar education and experience; therefore be it Resolved, That the Synod show its gratitude to its seminary professors and staff, who have so faithfully served it, by making a serious and continuing effort to provide subsidy sufficient to permit salary adjustments that allow for profes- sional competence and experience as well as for the devastat- ing effect of inflation. Board of Control Concordia Seminary St. Louis, Mo. Walter C. Dissen, Secretary 4-28 To Provide Housing for College and Seminary Staffs on an Equitable Basis The Synod as a functioning arm of the church has been given the responsibility of establishing, maintaining, and staffing colleges and seminaries for the preparation of quali- fied workers for the church. The Synod as an organization has been authorized by its member congregations to call and engage the highly skilled people needed for teaching and administrative tasks. When the Synod through its various Boards of Control under the direction of the Board for Higher Education asks people to serve the church in this way, it also assumes the responsibilities that are involved in providing for the physical needs and support of these people.
