Hawkins, Herman Miller, Lewis The centennial celebration is history, and the committee is proud of the part it played in making this time of reflection both informational and inspirational. The task of collecting, collat- ing, analyzing, and interpreting that history is a continuing necessity. Like Moses, the Black Centennial Committee started out on some very ambitious endeavors. The Lord sent His rich blessings upon the meager efforts. The Lord has permitted this committee to see that its primary goals and objectives, under His guidance and blessing, can and will be reached, but others will be the leaders when they become realities. What should the future of the Black Centennial Committee be now that the celebration is history? The committee feels that in view of its past record and because so many tasks that it initiated or participated in remain unfinished, it should be allowed to continue in service after this convention. The following could be its goals and objectives: 1. To serve as the primary group working toward the development of a permanent endowment for scholarships for Black Lutherans preparing for professional service in the church 2. To serve as the instrument for searching and gathering Black Lutheran historical resources (books, pamphlets, docu- ments, archives, artifacts, and mementos) and preserving them at Alabama Lutheran Academy and College, Selma, and Concordia Historical Institute, St. Louis 3. To plan, provide, and conduct convocations, workshops, and conferences dealing with Black Lutheran work, especially on the campuses of the synodical terminal schools, preferably during Black history week 4. To serve as a bridge to non-Black Lutherans of the Missouri Synod in order to enlist them in support of Black ministry and services 5. To offer support and assistance to the Commission on Black Ministry We further recommend a) that the executive director of the Commission on Black Ministry serve as staff for this new committee and provide liaison between the two; b) that the committee be enlarged by a lay member or two; c) that funding for the committee be provided through the Commission on Black Ministry.
